Be aware that in installing the v4 (Best of VAST) Base Objects, you will be replacing the original K2600 Factory Presets with NEW Programs, Setups, ROM Songs, etc.  If you do NOT wish to replace your original factory presets, then DO NOT USE these new v4 Objects.  Instead continue to use the older v3.00 Base Objects.

If you wish to install the new v4 Base Objects into ROM yet keep access to the older original factory sounds, you can do so by  installing these newer v4 Base Objects into Flash ROM and then downloading and using the K26 v3 Compatibility File (K26V3COMPAT).  Please see the README within the download for details.

OS Installation Instructions

The complete procedure for installing the operating system is included in Appendix A of the K2600 Performance Guide. For your convenience, here's a summary of the procedure:

We always recommend that you save any RAM objects to disk before doing any OS or Objects installations.

1. Copy the files OBJB404A.K26 and OBJB404B.K26 onto 2 separate DOS formatted floppies.

If you also have either the Vintage Electric Piano ROM Block, the  Stereo Dynamic ROM Block, and/or wish to use Live Mode, you will need to install (or reinstall as the case may be) those objects files as well.  If needed, download those files as well and copy them to a floppy. 2. Once you have gathered the necessary files, start the K2600

3. Press and release the Exit key while the "Please wait..." message is displayed. This brings up the K2600 Boot Loader.

4. Insert the floppy with the file OBJKB404A.K26, then choose "Install Objects" from the Boot Loader menu.

5. Highlight "floppy" at the "Device to install from:" prompt. Press OK. Highlight the file named "OBJB404A.K26". Press OK, then follow the prompts on the display to load this object set. The Display then returns to the "Device to Install From" display. Press OK and repeat for "OBJB404B.K26".  DO NOT PRESS DONE YET.

Once you have installed both parts of the Base Object file, you have two choices. If you need to install option object files, press OK, and proceed to step 6. If you don't have any ROM blocks, then jump to step 7.

6. If you have the Vintage Electric Piano ROM Block, the Stereo Dynamic ROM Block, and/or wish to use Live Mode, insert the floppy with those Option files on it. Repeat the Object Installation procedure for each additional file you need to install.

7. When you have loaded all the Object files that you require, you will again be asked to choose a "Device to install from:" Press Done. The Kurzweil will finish installing the Objects and you will be returned to the Boot Loader menu.

8. From here select and perform a Hard Reset, following the prompts on screen.

9. You will once again be returned to the Boot Loader menu.

Choose "Run System" from the Boot Loader.

Done.

While you won't normally need to reinstall the object files, you should still put the disks in a safe place, just in case you may need them again.

Note: you can also install these files from a DOS or Kurzweil formatted SCSI disk. When the display asks which device you want to install from, change the parameter to the appropriate SCSI ID.
